Year of Rat
Chinese New Year is on Feb 07, so here's my lame attempt to mark the Chinese Year of... Rat? Oh rat is one animal which I really don't like! I scream louder than the siren of an ambulance when I see a rat, and I probably need that ambulance to take me to the ER too!
A friend gave us a bright red table runner with golden dragons riding on gold-lining clouds some years ago – so I had it spread out on the table. On top of it I placed a bowl of tangerines. I believe tangerines mean Good Luck. So watch out folks, I may win Powerball this weekend! :)
I also had a lantern up by the front door, which prompted husband to say, "you silly tart, only brothel hangs a lantern by the door, so are we running a brothel now?!" --- Really? How can a kungfu-less Brit know about lantern? OR... maybe he just knows all about brothels? :)

I was once at Bedok hawker centre at night and this huge fat rat ran acrosss my foot (I was wearing slippers). That was the most frightening feeling. I almost fainted and needed an ambulance!
I didn't know about that lantern thing.
That's good to know just in case I mistake a place for a restaurant.
